We’d like to thank everyone who has sent us positive messages and offered support in the wake of COVID-19.
As you are aware we have closed our doors to patrons and this means that all immediate shows have been postponed, rescheduled or cancelled. Many theatres are in a similar position meaning arts organisations are being left financially vulnerable, with some of our friends closing permanently. Lawrence Batley Theatre is a registered charity and the complete loss of ticket sales for the foreseeable future has left us in a really serious position, requiring around £50,000 per month to keep going.
We are completely committed to doing two simple things:
– We will continue to pay all of our staff over the next few months – we are absolutely clear that no one should lose their job with us as a result of this virus; and
– We will continue to bring amazing work and creative opportunities to the people of Huddersfield, through our digital programme, LBTV, and then again live on stage once our doors reopen.
What is our digital programme, LBTV?
The lights may be off, our stage dark, but we have spent the last couple of weeks creating a digital programme so that we can continue to entertain our audiences, celebrate and nurture creativity. LBTV is packed with creative workshops, live Q+As, masterclasses, backstage access, broadcasts of past performances and much more.
We’re now asking for your help to keep the creative heart of Lawrence Batley Theatre beating strong. Your donations will help us look after the theatre and our staff, as well as help us develop and deliver our digital programme.
