The centrepiece of our our autumn/winter season is the return of our annual family pantomime. This award-winning, five-star panto is produced by the team at Lawrence Batley Theatre, making it a home-grown production which Huddersfield families return to year-on-year. Back at the helm for the fourth time Rachel Gee leads the creative team as Director/Choreographer and writer Andrew Pollard returns penning his eighth Huddersfield pantomime script. The cast features a host of familiar faces including Pete Toon back for the fourth time as our pantomime Dame, plus some brand-new additions making their Lawrence Batley Theatre debuts. This season’s title is Beauty and the Beast, expect the classic fairytale with a typical Lawrence Batley Theatre twist full of incredible effects, lavish costumes, a side-splitting script and big musical numbers.

After the success of By George: The Chip Shop Musical in 2023, we have once again partnered with Woodhouse Musical Theatre Company to co-produce a brand-new musical. The Village Hall, a toe-tapping, in-the-round farce which promises catchy choruses, chaos and committee meetings, will have its world premiere at Lawrence Batley Theatre in September. Get ready for a hilarious musical comedy set in the fictional village of Cheeley as we discover the scandals of its village hall where there’s an overstuffed Saturday schedule, not-so-secret affairs, twitchy tea ladies – and now, somebody’s lost the key…
With book and lyrics written by Huddersfield local Richard Sykes, the musical will be brought to life by a cast of incredible local creatives and actors, showcasing the wealth of theatrical talent in the region.

We remain committed to reflecting the diversity found in our region, with a particular focus on welcoming South Asian communities. This season we welcome dance company Srishti with their show SEVENS, a triple bill of Bharatanatyam and Kathak dance from one of the UK’s leading choreographers of classical Indian dance, Nina Rajarani MBE. Performed to an original live score, SEVENS explores the sacred, and sometimes sinful, significance of the number seven. Alongside this we have the return of our regular Bhangra Night, a fun and friendly club-like event with Bhangra DJ’s, Dhol players and dancing. This season’s edition is ladies only, the perfect safe space for women to hit the dance floor. You can also join inspiring Bhangra specialist Hardeep Sahota for a series of Bhangra and Giddha dance classes. Learn classic moves, build short dance routines and be introduced to the rich cultural heritage of the Punjab.

Becky Dash, Chief Executive of Lawrence Batley Theatre, says “Here at Lawrence Batley Theatre we champion outstanding home-grown talent, bring world class shows to Huddersfield and welcome our community in with our trademark West Yorkshire warmth. Our autumn/winter season does just that, with incredible theatre created right here taking centre stage alongside the very best in visiting comedy, new writing, dance, music and family shows.
