We teamed up with Huddersfield Light Opera Company to spread some magic in our community and beat those January blues!

Each January for the last 46 years, local theatre society the Huddersfield Light Opera Company have staged a weeklong pantomime. Featuring a cast of local amateur performers it’s always a magical way to kick off the new year. This year's pantomime was Dick Whittington.

As a continuation of our Christmas Heroes campaign, Huddersfield Light Opera offered complimentary tickets to Dick Whittington for 250 young people and families from across Kirklees who might not otherwise have access to live performance. The cast also joined the audience in the foyer of the theatre following the show for a meet and greet and photo opportunity.

Groups that attend these free performances included The Welcome Centre, Early Support Services, WomensCentre Kirklees and Fusion Housing, and a wonderful time was had by all.

Chris Brearley, Artistic Director of Huddersfield Light Opera Company said "We were overjoyed to be able to offer this performance in conjunction with Lawrence Batley Theatre. The atmosphere was one of great warmth throughout the performance, which definitely continued in the foyer after the show with all the cast photos and selfies".

Becky Atkinson, Chief Executive of Lawrence Batley Theatre said, "A massive thank you to everyone at Huddersfield Light Opera Company for this amazing opportunity. January is an incredibly challenging time for families, now more than ever, and being able to offer a couple of hours of magic and escapism for our community really is priceless".
