2026 April 22Mikron Theatre at Lawrence Batley Theatre: Two Must-See Shows in Summer 2026
We're proud to welcome Mikron Theatre back to Lawrence Batley Theatre this summer, with two exciting new productions arriving in 2026.
A long-standing creative partnership
Lawrence Batley Theatre and Marsden-based Mikron Theatre share a close and growing relationship. Many Mikron performers regularly appear on our Huddersfield stage throughout the year, while members of their creative team play a key role in our much-loved pantomime season. Rachel Gee, our Pantomime Director and Choreographer, is also Mikron’s General Manager, and our Pantomime Dame, Pete Toon, works year-round as their Producer.
About Mikron Theatre
Founded in 1972, Mikron Theatre has spent over five decades bringing high-quality touring productions to communities across the UK. In 2026, the company celebrates its 54th year of creating theatre for everyone.
Touring to more than 130 venues each year—often via their iconic narrowboat Tyseley—Mikron Theatre brings performances to places traditional theatre companies rarely reach. Their original musical productions celebrate distinctly British stories, with an impressive catalogue of 70+ shows and hundreds of original songs.
Accessibility is central to their work. Every show features integrated audio description, ensuring performances are inclusive and engaging for all audiences without the need for additional equipment.
What's On: Mikron Theatre at Lawrence Batley Theatre
This summer Mikron Theatre are touring both of their brand-new shows to Lawrence Batley Theatre, for one world premiere performance and one magical outdoor experience. Our pantomime Musical Director has worked on the music for both productions, so get your foot ready to tap along.
Wensleydale Whey – World Premiere - Fri 8 May
The Monks from the Abbey are desperately seeking a living soul to resurrect their traditional Wensleydale cheese. Featuring a cast of characters who are whey out there. Expect a cheesy plot, a sprinkle of drama and plenty of fromage-tastic musical numbers.
Top of the Wold – Outdoor Theatre - Thu 2 July
In the surroundings of our stunning Courtyard, hop aboard the East Riding Mobile Library for a trip to the Top of the Wold. On this laugh-out-loud journey via Bempton, Bridlington, Hornsea and Howden, we explore a region barely noticed by the nation it feeds. There's a limited capacity for this show, book early to avoid disappointment.
Celebrate 54 Years of Touring Theatre
As Mikron Theatre celebrates over half a century of touring, these two productions offer the perfect opportunity to experience their unique storytelling style - whether you're a long-time fan or discovering them for the first time.
Special Offer: Book both shows at the same time and receive 15% off tickets, saving up to £5.85* per person.
