Cracking Edinburgh: Wrapping Up The Uncrackable Case at the Fringe
2025 September 4What a whirlwind summer it’s been for our recent co-production with Front Room Productions!
From the very first rehearsal here at the theatre to stepping out at The Pleasance Courtyard every day for the past month, The Uncrackable Case: A Courtroom Musical well and truly made its mark at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
From Huddersfield to Edinburgh
Back in July, we welcomed a brilliant team of Northern cast and creatives into our building to begin shaping the show into a fast-paced, 70-minute Fringe production. From script read-throughs to building the set, there was a real buzz as the courtroom musical came to life. By the time the team arrived in Edinburgh, the case was ready to be heard – and audiences were more than ready to deliver their verdict!

A Fringe to Remember
The festival is always a rollercoaster – equal parts nerves, excitement, and adrenaline – but this one was special. Day after day the show played to fantastic audiences, with standing ovations, big laughs, and even a few gasps in all the right places.
We were proud to see The Uncrackable Case recognised across the festival press with lots of glowing reviews including The Stage calling us “a stand out” of the Fringe and WhatsOnStage listing us as one of their “New Musicals to See at the Edinburgh Fringe 2025.” Plus:
In total, the show racked up 14 glowing ★★★★ and ★★★★★ reviews.
And audiences were just as enthusiastic:
A highlight of the run was seeing the show featured on the BBC, with the team sharing the story behind Humpty Dumpty’s trial and the journey of bringing such a brilliantly bonkers idea to life.
A Word From The Team
Our Head of Creative Programme and producer of the show, Olivia Race, summed it up best:
"Taking a show to Edinburgh is the most rewarding and the most exhausting experience all at once. We loved sharing this joyful show with the most incredible audiences and are so thankful to everyone who booked a ticket to join us at the beginning of the journey for this brand new musical. We've learnt a lot, we've laughed a lot, and we're ready to sleep a lot."
Thank You
We’re incredibly proud to have co-produced this egg-tremely funny, utterly bonkers and original show with Front Room Productions – and grateful to everyone who made it possible. Huge thanks to The Pleasance Courtyard for hosting us, to our fantastic creative team and cast, and to every audience member who came along and joined in the fun.
What’s Next?
While this Fringe run has come to a close, we know this isn’t the last you’ll hear of The Uncrackable Case. We’re already beginning to explore touring opportunities for 2026–2027, and we’re excited to see where this bold, Northern-made musical might head next.
Why It Matters
At such big festivals like the Fringe, Northern voices can often be few and far between. Championing Northern talent is central to who we are – and this project was a proud reminder of why it matters.
As a registered charity, we’re committed to giving local artists the space, time, and support they need to thrive – helping shows like The Uncrackable Case grow from first rehearsal to festival stage, and beyond.
With your support, we can go even further: creating new opportunities, backing more projects, and ensuring fresh Northern voices are heard on stages here in Huddersfield and across the UK.
If you believe in the power of new stories and fresh perspectives, please consider supporting us. Together, we can help the next generation of Northern talent take centre stage.
