Love words? Come along to the monthly night of words, shared spoken and sung, at Lawrence Batley Theatre!

This night of words features a special guest performer sharing poetry and stories plus open mic performances. 

No need to book, pay as you feel. All money goes to guest performer.

Wed 26 November - Izzy Brittain - Leeds based artist, performer, facilitator and maker, who works across dance, poetry, theatre and film.

Wed 25 February - Lence is a Rap & Spoken Word artist from Leeds, known for an innovative style of intricate lyrics, astute observations, compelling music and impactful live performances. He has been featured on BBC 6 Music, worked with the National Literacy Trust and performed at BBC Words First. Lence runs Blur the Lines, a showcase of Rappers, Poets and Musicians based in Yorkshire, with 2 sold out shows at Leeds Playhouse and memorable events at Howard Assembly Room, Leeds Lit Festival and Leeds Library. 

Wed 25 March - Biz Bond is a performance poet currently based in Manchester. They've used poetry to document everyday pockets of joy, and que(e)ry the world around them. Since 2024 they have showcased their work with organisations including Young Identity, Manchester Literature Festival and Festival of Libraries. Bond has been dubbed ‘good value for money’ by Simon Armitage. 

Wed 29 April - Noor is a spoken-word artist, singer, and creative producer. She is soft yet strong, personal yet universal. Known for her powerful storytelling, her work explores faith, ancestry, belonging, society and the quiet contradictions we all hold, offering a space where vulnerability feels like strength. More than just a performer, Noor creates environments for reflection and expression, leading workshops, including her Brit-ish workshop, which invites others to embrace the in-between spaces of who they are. Her art is rooted in her name, Noor, meaning light.  

Wed 24 June - Amina Atiq is a freelance creative working across the cultural and educational sector. Based in Liverpool, Amina is a published poet, performance artist, practitioner and award-winning community activist. Amina was a BBC Words First Finalist and is an anti-racism advisor for Curious Minds & Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Theatres. 

Wed 29 July Courtyard Stories - Trystan Lewis is a Lancaster-based poet who performs at events across the North West and beyond. He has featured at Verbalise in Kendal, the Wordarium in Lancaster, Write Out Loud in Bolton, and the 2023 Morecambe Poetry Festival. He was a finalist at the 2025 I Am Loud National Slam in Edinburgh. 

Please note our July date is due to take place in our Courtyard (weather permitting).
