Firewalk Challenge- Participant

Here's how the evening unfolds:

6:30pm – Live music begins and participant registration opens
7:00pm – Firewalk training inside the theatre
8:00pm – The fire is lit
8:30pm – Firewalking begins
9:00pm – Firewalking ends and celebration begins

Expect an electric atmosphere as anticipation builds and the challenge comes to life.

Is it real fire?

Yes, we burn a light - medium density wood, which we break down into a smooth glowing twinkling path of embers 20’ long by 2’wide.

Is it safe?
Yes, our Firewalk Challenge will be led by firewalk experts Blaze who provided the safest firewalk in the UK. It is designed to be a safe, empowering, and fun experience.

Do I need any experience?
No experience is needed at all. Your evening will begin with a motivational training briefing before you take on the Firewalk Challenge.

Please note: It is essential that all participants attend the training prior to the firewalk

Do I have to walk barefoot?

Yes, participants walk barefoot across the embers. This is part of the experience and helps ensure the walk is completed safely.

What does it feel like?

Many don't remember having any physical sensation at all about the experience. Some say it was cold, some say it was warm and crunchy. What you think it's going to feel like and what it actually feels like are completely different.

What happens on the night?

Once you have registered and everyone is ready, you will undergo a training session in our Cellar Theatre. The training is based around proven motivational and psychological methods. There are physical reasons why firewalking is possible, all will be explained during the training.

It doesn’t involve any elements of hypnosis or any spiritual methodologies. Once the training is completed, we go straight out to firewalk.

What should I wear?

There are no special requirements regarding clothing. Casual clothing is best and all you need to do is roll up the bottom of your trousers, so they don’t get dirty.

Sock, tights and stockings would need to be removed before the walk itself.

Your feet are going to be sooty afterwards; this is the best time to wear those odd socks we all have lingering in our sock drawer.

Wear light coloured clothing as this shows up better in photographs and videos.

Don’t use creams and/or foot sprays on the day of the firewalk.

Nail varnish on toes is safe.

How much sponsorship do I need to raise?

We are challenging you to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100. But don’t worry we are here to help. We will be sharing lots of fundraising tips and tricks with you on the run up to the event and if you need any support reach our to our Head of Development Rosie – rosie@thelbt.org

Where does the money go?

All sponsorship raised goes directly to Lawrence Batley Theatre. As a registered charity, your support ensures that we can bring the magic of theatre to local people year-round.

Can friends and family come to watch?

Yes, you friends and family will need a Spectator ticket to watch, these are just £5 each. Their support can make the experience even more special so be sure to invite your family and friends to join you on the night. Spectator tickets can be bought online in advance.

Spectators will not be able to attend the briefing, but are welcome to relax in our bar and courtyard and enjoy the live entertainment. If you are bringing children, please make sure that another Spectator can supervise them while you attend the briefing.

Is there anything else I need to know?

All participants must refrain from drinking alcohol prior to the event - you won’t be allowed to take part if you have consumed alcohol. That drink will taste all the better as you celebrate after completing the firewalk challenge.
