As we celebrate Volunteers Week, we're taking the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the incredible people who generously give their time, energy and passion to support our theatre.
Our Front of House manager Dom Moccia recently sat down with one of our steward volunteers Stephen who has been a volunteer at the theatre since 2021. Stephen shared his story of becoming a volunteer and becoming part of our theatre family, and how this has had such a positive impact on his life.
What made you want to become a volunteer?
I like working with people that have the same interests as myself and working as a team is something I have done for a long time.
What makes you happy about volunteering at the theatre?
What makes me happy? Well, the smile on my face when I walk through the door says it all! Everyone is friendly and we are all made to feel welcome.
How has volunteering at the theatre helped you?
It has helped my mental health enormously and given me a real purpose to get up each day.
Do you feel you’ve gained confidence since becoming a volunteer?
I’ve not just gained confidence but regained my confidence since volunteering here. The quiet person I once was has changed to a more positive person who seems to make conversation more easily and gets involved now.
Would you recommend volunteering at Lawrence Batley Theatre?
Most definitely, if you have a passion for theatre and meeting people, then volunteering here is just for you!
What is the best thing about being a volunteer here?
The best thing is how nice the staff are and making sure all the patrons are enjoying themselves and are catered for. If they are happy then I am just as happy.
