The Othello Project

To coincide with English Touring Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of Othello, the LBT is collaborating with ETT to provide a unique opportunity for local theatre makers to develop their own performance work in response to some of the themes of Othello. This scratch performance work will be shown as part of The Othello Project on Saturday 13 October at the LBT.

Along with this showcase opportunity successful participants will also get:

  • Mentoring from members of the artistic team from English Touring Theatre
  • Free rehearsal space and technical support from the LBT.
  • Up to £100 to cover associated travel and expenses

Venice; a western colonial power employs the newly married Othello, a Muslim general, to lead their army against the impending Turkish invasion. The strain of fitting into a society driven by discrimination and fear soon take their toll. Manipulated by Iago, Othello’s life quickly unravels as he turns on everything he holds dear.

Performance work should respond one or more of the themes of:

  • Predjudice / Othering / Racism
  • Manipulation / Jealously
  • Toxic Masculinity
  • Love / Loyalty

To apply for this opportunity, please send us 1 side of A4, or a 3 minute video outlining who you are, who you’ll work with (if there is more than 1 person involved), why you’d like to take part, and a brief outline of your initial ideas for the performance work you want to produce.

Send applications to Deadline: 10am Tuesday 25 September.
