What should I expect?

Young people get involved with the LBT Youth Theatre for lots of different reasons and for some it is a life changing experience. Whether you want to become an actor, make new friends, develop your confidence, learn new skills, look at the world in a new way or just have fun, the Youth Theatre is the place to do it. You will be working with some of the best tutors around, all of whom are professional theatre practitioners who are CRB-checked.

There’s nothing better than the magical feeling that comes from seeing live performance. As a member of the LBT Youth Theatre you will have the opportunity to see fantastic shows at least once a term and you can then use the work you see as inspiration for developing your own cutting-edge performances within your group.

All members are encouraged to join the LBT A Night Less Ordinary scheme which offers free theatre tickets to under 26s... so when you’re not watching with us, you can have a night out on us instead! For more information visit our A Night Less Ordinary page (just click here).

Performing!

As the term proceeds, group members work with tutors to use the new techniques and ideas that they've developed to create their own pieces which are then performed in front of an invited audience (including family and friends) at the end of each term.

The LBT Youth Theatre also offers members the opportunity to get involved with many other performance projects including play-in-a-weeks every half term, play-in-a-day projects from time to time and an annual festival which gives actors the chance to deliver rehearsed readings for local playwrights developing their scripts.

"I enjoyed the acting, how we worked together and made a really good show."  Cast member

A highlight of the LBT Youth Theatre calendar is the main house production which runs every 2 years. This main stage production is fully supported by a professional creative team and performed to potential audiences of 1,500 people.

"I was absolutely amazed about the complexity of the performance produced and the quality"  Audience member

The LBT Young Writers

Are you a budding writer between 8 and 15 years old?  Do you have characters in your head that you want to unleash on the world?  Do you secretly - or not so secretly – wish your name was as recognisable as William Shakespeare’s, Alan Ayckbourn’s or John Godber’s?  Then the LBT Young Writers is for you.

In these workshops you’ll need more than just pen and paper as tutors encourage you to look creatively at your work to get the ink flowing.

There are plenty of chances to test your scripts in front of others and the Write Now Festival, which takes place each year, is a chance for you to premiere your work in front of audiences.
