Life has always been a circus for world famous 1960s film director Guido Contini (Day-Lewis). Frustrated creatively he engages in a series of dramatic relationships with various women – including his wife (Cotillard), his mistress (Cruz), his muse (Kidman), his costume designer (Dench), a young journalist (Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Loren).
