make a difference

A note from Patrick Stewart...

"I am writing this on behalf of the Lawrence Batley Theatre, because of my local connection and to lend support to a theatre that is passionate about working with the community, sharing the joy that can come from live performance, and about participation in creative activities.

Many people do not realise that the LBT is a registered charity and would not be here without the contribution and generosity of people just like you.

If you decide to Make A Difference you will be helping current and future generations to continue to enjoy the theatre in years to come."

The LBT is alive with excitement and anticipation...

Live Performance

On the Main Stage we host the highest quality drama, dance and opera. Our excellent programme includes performances from Northern Broadsides, Hull Truck Theatre, Northern Stage and Opera della Luna and we are a leading dance venue in the region. The theatre is on the international map too as we feature the world renowned annual Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

Artist Development

We help artists develop and creative companies Dark Horse, Chol Theatre, Joss Arnott Dance and Tell Tale Hearts are all based here. In the atmospheric Syngenta Cellar we support the development of new work and host intimate drama. We also hold regular art exhibitions across the building.

Education

Up in the beautiful Attic Theatre our thriving Youth Theatre engages children and young people, giving them the opportunity to discover their passion for theatre. Our ‘Let’s Create’ programme of activities enables people of all ages and abilities to be creative and feel vibrant in this fun and informal environment.

Community Work

Our passion for the arts is taken out into the community, where it is needed most, sharing our skills, celebrating our experience and forging relationships with community groups and schools.

We are home to many local theatre groups and countless amateur dramatic and operatic societies use our facilities, enabling hundreds of local people to enjoy the thrill of performing.

Do you know how much YOU can do?

For almost 20 years community theatre groups and other supporters campaigned to have a top rate performance arts venue in Huddersfield. Their efforts paid off and the LBT opened in 1994. We are a registered charity and would not be here if it was not for the generous gifts of time and donations from this remarkable group of people. You too can help us flourish.

Volunteer

Volunteering at the LBT as a steward is invaluable to the running of the theatre and by giving your time you will be contributing to the success of the venue. The buzz of a performance about to begin and the thrill of being a part of a local event can be a rewarding and exciting experience.

Give now

Giving a donation to the LBT now means you will make a difference immediately. If you have participated in the arts as an audience member or in a creative capacity, you will know how important it is to help more people experience live performance and the joy of discovering their creativity. Thanks to Gift Aid we can claim an extra 25p from the Inland Revenue on every pound you donate.

Leave a legacy

Planning a legacy donation for a charity is a satisfying experience. Leaving a legacy to the LBT in your Will would be an amazing way to support our charity and help us make a difference to the future of the arts in Kirklees.
Legacy giving does not have to be daunting. In fact you would be surprised how easy it can be. You can talk to your solicitor or contact us for an information sheet. In years to come artists, audiences and the community will benefit from your generosity.
