Margaret Sowerby

Enjoy the huge array and diverse talents of Margaret Sowerby whose work is on show throughout the whole venue.
Born in Denby Dale, West Yorkshire, Margaret Sowerby studied painting and ceramics at Huddersfield School of Art and more recently at Bradford College. She taught art for 34 years in schools in Yorkshire, Singapore and Germany. Margaret exhibits regularly at Holmfirth Exhibition and her interests and themes are mainly portraiture, animals, sport and food! Margaret is also interested in any aspect of the environment that captures her and that says something about contemporary society and the world we live in.
“My aim is to produce a body of work on subjects that I care about and has significance for me; to present them in a way that refreshes our experience and questions how we view things and what they stand for. Contrasting images in juxtaposition can manifest new meanings in an ironic way. It is the ambiguous statements about society that I am interested in.”
